"The Role of Schools in Promoting Drug Prevention" Seminar: Highlights from Day 2

Highlights from Day 2: Friday, 11 April 2008


The second and last day of the Seminar focused on secondary prevention, i.e. the prevention of recurrences or exacerbations when drug use has been detected. The event came to a close in the afternoon with organizers issuing 11 recommendations.


Presentations


Experts explained how educators can detect early on drug use among students by using a scientific questionnaire, and how they are able to bring about behavior change using motivational interviewing. Speakers also shed light on the referral system school administrations can follow to address the drug problem among the students.




Recommendations

The Seminar came to a close on 11 April 2008, with organizers issuing 11 recommendations. In their statement, organizers stressed on the importance of building the capacities of educators to detect and positively address any behavior change among students.
